This is a fairy tale said to have been passed down for hundreds of years at a certain shrine.
A tale from the distant past that no one can say for certain truly happened: of the renowned high priest Kageharu, progenitor of the Yachimata; of the White Beast, a creature who understood human speech; and of Kikurami Kami no Hime, leader of the Tayutai.
Hundreds of years ago, in an age of war, Kageharu, a Shugendou monk, was charged by his master Tenkai with a duty: to subdue a harmful manifestation known as the White Beast, said to steal food from villages and settlements throughout Ashihara no Kuni.
Having accepted the duty, Kageharu gathered information in Nakatsu Village, then set out for Mount Kouten in order to subdue the White Beast.
The White Beast that appeared carried a great sword and was clad in armor, gallant and dignified in bearing. She had the form of a young girl, beautiful enough to leave Kageharu spellbound. Realizing that she understood his words, Kageharu attempted to reason, yet she would not listen, directing unmistakable killing intent toward him.
"Humans betray. Humans are not worthy of trust. I will show no mercy to the disrespectful."
Kageharu's words struck a nerve, and the battle with the White Beast began.
Humans or the Tayutai - which will survive?
This is the story of humans and Tayutai, of the coexistence they once sought, and the journey to the ends of that dream.
