'Adult' is a broadly subjective concept, but in visual novel settings should usually mean any person who is of age and has finished the high school. In fantasy/sci-fi settings where high school is not mandatory or doesn't exist, having an occupation or being of age where having an occupation is expected can be used as an indication of 'adulthood'.
